Susan Chen Foundation & Orientations Young Art Writers Award

The Susan Chen Foundation is sponsoring an annual competition for art research and writing on Asian art for students, an initiative coordinated by Orientations, the leading international Asian art publication. The competition will help to identify and promote new academic talent. Importantly, with the help of professional editors and a panel of judges drawn from academia and museums, we will mentor the finalists through a series of writing workshops and academic advice sessions to transform their research into publishable papers. Shortlisted papers will be published on Orientations’ website, while the winning essay will be published in the globally distributed Orientations magazine.

This year’s winner is Ocean Wang, a recent graduate in art history from the University of Hong Kong. In her article she discusses the street-vendor genre in Chinese paintings of the Song (960-1279) and Yuan (1272-1368) dynasties (see full article here)
