About Susan

Susan Chen (1940-2014) was both a collector and one of the world’s leading dealers of Chinese art and antiquities. She was a self-taught connoisseur, eventually handling the finest antiques and works of art. She was renowned for introducing people to the wonder of Chinese art and was well respected and much admired within the art world.

She was extraordinarily generous with her time, patience and knowledge, always showing interest in people she met. She was always keen to mentor young and gifted people deserving of her guidance and a leg-up in life – all the more so if they expressed interest in art or were looking to pursue a career in the art world. She also cared deeply about family and making a difference in the lives of disadvantaged children.

In view of her generosity, mentorship, support and her profound connection with Chinese art, it was fitting that towards the end of her life Susan expressed her wish that a significant portion of her estate be left to establish a philanthropic foundation that should perpetuate the positive impact that she made during her life.
