Susan Chen Foundation Lecture Series at the Oriental Ceramic Society of Hong Kong

The Susan Chen Foundation is sponsoring a 5-year series of lectures by renowned scholars in Chinese art, combined with half-day symposia to support local scholarship around the subject matter. Organised by the Oriental Ceramic Society of Hong Kong, the events will be free to the public and made available to global viewers through recordings.

The inaugural Susan Chen Foundation Lecture was delivered by Dr. Pengliang Lu of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York on "Recasting the Past: The Art of Chinese Bronzes, 1100–1900". In his lecture Dr Lu sought to redress the bias that “later” bronzes were poor imitations of earlier bronzes by showing the technical virtuosity and aesthetic creativity of these later creations and revealing their immense impact on various aspects of cultural life.
