Chinese Object Study Training Programme at the Hong Kong Palace Museum

The Susan Chen Foundation is sponsoring the Hong Kong Palace Museum’s (HKPM) Chinese Object Study Training Programme which will comprise twice-yearly workshops with the aim of training the next generation of Chinese art specialists. Each one-week workshop will invite five leading experts from universities and museums (in Hong Kong, the Mainland and overseas), who will work with ten graduate trainees on a selection of objects with a special topic in Chinese art in an immersive and intimate museum setting to help students develop critical skills for working with objects, and understand conservation, collection care, and other issues not often taught in typical art history courses.  

The hands-on mode of this programme is consistent with Susan Chen’s regular practice of inviting visitors to see, handle, and learn from her esteemed collection of Chinese art objects, and of encouraging and mentoring young people in their career development. Through this programme, the Susan Chen Foundation is poised to make a strong impression on a whole new generation of leaders in museums, the academia, and other cultural and educational institutions.
